If you are Windows 10 user, you probably know that Microsoft has given up on Internet Explorer and the new OS has a brand new browser called Edge. According to the statistics, IE was a tool, mostly used to download other browsers – Chrome or Firefox, and Microsoft expected to change the situation with the release of Edge. However, users seem not to appreciate Microsoft’s efforts and continue using third-party browsers instead of built-in one.

Windows developers didn’t give up so easily and implemented a small feature that intended to stop users from downloading browsers (we wrote about it a month ago) – when you search Chrome or FireFox for the first time using Bing and Edge you get a message “Microsoft recommends Microsoft Edge for Windows 10,” and a “Learn why” button next to that message.

Apparently, Microsoft also keeps an eye on the statistics on our web site and understood that this step didn’t change anything.
According to The Verge new Windows 10 update (10568) brings a new trick to the system.

When you try to change the default browser a small pop up comes out and asks you to “Give Microsoft Edge a shot”.

The similar dialog will be shown if you try to change the default app for music and photo applications.

I’m not sure if this step can help Edge to become more popular, but it looks like that the major influence on this situation has the new way of changing default apps and settings in Windows 10 – it became more difficult and less obvious than it used to be in the previous versions of the OS.
