Windows: 32 Bit VS 64 Bit system

Before downloading or installing application you might notice that you can get a choice between 32-bit (86x) and 64 bit (64x). Which one do you need and what is the difference?

Depending on your hardware you have an option to install 32 or 64-bit Windows system. First of all it depends on processor (CPU) that your hardware is running. In case you PC has 64-bit CPU you can easily install either 32 or 64-bit system. In case your CPU is 32 bit, you have only one option, 32-bit operating system.

Now let’s see what are the benefits of the 64 bit systems:

• 64-bit system is able to operate with bigger volume of RAM. 32-bit Windows system cannot work with more than 3,5 Gb of RAM, even though might have 6GB, 8GB or even more plugged into your computer.

• Allows you to run 64-bit applications on your PC that provides much better performance than its 32-bit version. That is why sometimes during software download or installation you are asked to select 32 or 64-bit version of the application.

Please note that 64-bit applications will not run on 32-bit systems. Usually, there will be an error returned during the installation process.
