The EU General Data Protection Regulation in plain terms: who it applies to, what counts as personal data, and what it asks of a company.
The EU adopted the General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR, in April 2016, and it has applied since 25 May 2018. Every company that processes personal data of people in the EU must comply, wherever the company is based.
Enforcement is real: regulators have issued fines of up to €1.2 billion (Meta, 2023), and smaller companies are fined too. Compliance is not only for big companies. If your business works with any personal data of people in the EU, the GDPR applies to you.
The regulation has 99 articles and 173 recitals, and applying them to your own processes takes experience. HiTech Service has a long track record of projects in data protection, information security, and GDPR compliance development.
